
About Aya
Aya Robertson is a Japanese-Canadian keyboardist specialising in Baroque and Classical opera. She also coaches and performs Historical Dance.
Aya moved to London, UK in 2019 after being accepted into the Professional Diploma in Répétiteurship program at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM). She graduated with a First and was subsequently appointed a Fellow of the Academy as a Répétiteur from 2020 to 2022, working under Brenda Hurley. Pursuing her love for Early Music, Aya completed her MA in Harpsichord (2023) and a Professional Diploma in Fortepiano (2024) at RAM, where she received a DipRAM certificate for an outstanding final recital. During this time, Aya began training in Baroque and Classical dance with Mary Collins.
She has performed harpsichord and organ in The London Handel Festival, Academy of Ancient Music, London International Festival of Early Music, and Barokksolistene. As a répétiteur, Aya has collaborated with sought-after directors such as Laurence Cummings, Elizabeth Kenny, David Bates, and Alice Farnham. She has also worked with Susanna Stranders as part of the Royal Ballet and Opera’s Jette Parker Mentorship Programme (2021).
Aya was the Young Artist Répétiteur at Opera Holland Park (2024) for their production of Il barbiere di Siviglia and she is currently training as a Young Artist at the National Opera Studio (NOS) in the 2024/25 season. As of Summer, 2025, Aya is a faculty member of Melofonetica’s Veneto Opera Summer School in Italy where she teaches Baroque dance and gesture.
